Are they a special type of windows? No, they are not. Special features of glazing a cottage depend on an individual type of a house. Say, if you have a house of beam or a log one, you should have the wooden windows fixed with special types of plates, not with cringles (long screws). Why? With a house made of beam you will have a considerable shrinkage in the first couple of years and woodenwindows shrink along with the walls.

If the house is made of stone, during the laying there often is lack of correspondence to the designed openings. Sometimes the quaters (lugs in the window frame opening) don’t meet the requirements or are even absent. It is utterly important to come to an agreement with the construction workers when taking measure so that you can take into account balcony doors and height of the floors as well, as compatibility of window sills and the heating radiators.

	From our experience we can recommend our customers to order and install window sills and nets against mosquitoes only after the wooden windows are installed. Then all function features of the rooms show. It lets the customer keep track of all expenses and protect the window sills from damage during the finishing work. A skilled construction worker could consider these details trifles but, believe our experience, these trifles can cause you much trouble in future.

What should I do if they first fixed the wooden windows and then started finishing work?

If it is finishing work that leaves some moisturizing effect (such as plaster or buckle), then make sure that the windows are kept opened for at least 15 minutes a day. Otherwise you could have a sauna effect which is rather bad for the wooden surfaces.

If you build a house yourself, you have a lot to remember and worry about. You have to become a specialist in building field, handle problems with socle and stud, quality of roofing work and sewerage system and so on. Wooden windows is one of the problems too. What will happen to them on frosty days (it’s true that in the country the weather conditions are tougher, than in Moscow); how will the house shrinkage effect the windows; and at last, what king of maintenance will they need in several years?
