Wooden Windows Plastic windows are long out of fashion.
Wood is an ideal material for windows and doors.

Summer has passed. Are you done with your repairs yet? If so – accept our congratulations. If not – don’t be sad: real Euro repairs last long and start with the change of windows. And strange as it may seem, it’s better to install new windows at cold time of year. “Nonsense! – You’ll object to it, - how can I open my flat to rain and snow for several days!” Don’t worry, your flat will stay without windows only for 15-20 minutes – the time needed to dismantle the old frames and install new ones. Further work of fortification and insulation of wooden window is done in an apartment protected from bad weather. But why is it more sensible to change windows in autumn? Because the frames are immediately put to the test for half a year: rain and frost, snow and thaw, snowstorm and hoarfrost. As a rule, all window “diseases” (if there are any) come out in autumn and winter. It’s better to repair them at once and in summer you can take your time and occupy yourself with plastering, slopes and walls. And, which is also very important, the prices are 5-10% lower after the summer boom. So let’s make a choice: plastic or wooden.
Plastic windows have long been out of fashion in Europe, and now it’s fainting in Russia. Wood is an ideal material for windows and doors; the best and most expensive plastic frames can only look to the characteristics of their pine relatives. Wooden windows let the apartment “breathe” (compare cotton and nylon shirt), their heat insulation characteristics are much better and, last of all, they are just beautiful. The beauty of real wooden lines calms down, makes your home cozy, fills it with amiable warm light.
The real Euro window is made of three plies of wood, thoroughly dried and glued, treated by special aseptic compound and painted in any desired color. So it becomes the first point that influences your designer imagination.
Wooden windows need not be insulated, they are worked out and adjusted so, that the heat doesn’t get out of the apartment. They don’t change their form in the cold and don’t crack in the heat. In summer there’s no greenhouse effect, the windows don’t crack or rot. The living period of such windows is more than 50 years. It’s not easy to produce such windows, they haven’t been produced in Russia till recently, and the ones imported from abroad cost much more than plastic windows. As a result – forced fashion for plastic windows. Now Russian factories use western equipment and modern technologies to produce amazingly beautiful, reliable wooden windows of high quality. Their price does not exceed that of plastic windows of the same quality (we don’t take into consideration slim and cheap substitutes – there are fakes in any sphere).
Wooden windows represented on the market can be divided into three types: - Wooden windows imported from Europe. High quality, high prices, long term of delivery (70-80 days). – Wooden windows produced by Russian and joint manufactures, using modern technologies. The quality is equal to European; the wooden windows are often adapted to Russian severe climate. The prices are determined by a building firm, but in any case lower than German or Finnish. Besides other well known marks – “D.O.M. Windows” with a nice ladybird on its logo and “Gracon”, also “Tonset” and “Eurosweet”.
Russian plants often produce windows on obsolete equipment, consequently the quality is not high and prices are relatively low. You’d better not buy cheap wooden windows of low quality, and if your means are limited, plastic windows will be the better choice. To have no regrets about your choice try to follow our advice:
- Real wooden Euro window consists of three beams treated by special compound and glued; there must be tightening system in it. If in some firm you can’t see your future wooden window in section (a small angle) you’d better order windows somewhere else.
- The certificate and license should not be mentioned here, as they must be seen on the wall of an office. Be sure to ask the managers about reports of wooden windows testing. The most reliable test is carried out by the Institute of Construction Physics. All the numbers in its reports are true to life and can be trusted.
- If, besides samples for demonstration, there’s no working wooden window overlooking the street in the firm’s office, be on your guard. Either this firm is afraid to expose its product to frost and sun, or it has been working for a small period of time.
- Booklets, standard forms, photographs of glazed objects, discount cards are also very important, they speak in favour of the firm’s and the dealer’s stability.
- The number of orders is confidential information. But still try to find out approximate number of clients. If you are the first one in 25-30 days just quit and let someone else be a pioneer.

- If we talk about overloaded manufacture that keeps to production technology, it will take about 25-30 days to produce your windows. Offers to make wooden windows in a week and a half sound unconvincing.
